Description

The unit introduces the student to the fire and explosion hazards in industrial and residential environment, the risk assessment methodology and mitigation technology. The topics considered in the explosion hazards are the fundamentals of fuel dispersion, fuel ignition, flame propagation, deflagration and detonation, vapour cloud explosions, BLEVEs and dust explosions. The topics considered in fire safety science and engineering are fire development in compartments, smoke control in buildings, fire control, prevention and mitigation technology and evacuation strategies.
